Vernee Active in analysis, rugged 6GB + 128GB phone with IP68

Vernee is one of those telephone manufacturers that does not stop expanding their catalog in order to satisfy all types of users. They have large battery mobiles like the Vernee X, top of the range like the Vernee Mars Pro or more affordable terminals like the M5 and M6 models. Now, they have entered the realm of ruggedized phones with the Vernee Active.

In today's review we take a look at the Vernee Active, a waterproof all-terrain phone with IP68, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space.

Vernee Active in analysis, a rugged smartphone that gives up (almost) nothing

When we talk about rugged phones, resistant to water, mud and dust, the first image that comes to mind is that of a very consistent terminal with rather modest hardware. Something logical, since the main interest of your target audience is that it withstands all kinds of inclement weather. The rest, if it performs fairly well, is enough.

We had already known phones that escaped from that stereotype, like last year's Ulefone Armor 2. The Vernee Active follows the same path marked by the Armor 2, but with some improvements such as more storage space and significantly less weight.

Design and display

The Vernee Active features a JDI Incell display of 5.5 inches with Full HD resolution (1920x1080p) and 401ppi with 2.5D curved glass. As for the appearance, we find a phone with a sober and elegant design, in black.

A rugged smartphone with IP68 certification: resistant to temperatures between -30 ℃ and 60 ℃, submersible up to 1.5 meters deep, 99% dustproof, and shock and drop protection.

It has dimensions of 15.60 x 8.00 x 1.12 cm and weighs 198 grams. A weight that we can consider very tight, especially if we compare it with other rugged smartphones of the type (such as the previously mentioned Ulefone Armor 2 and its 270 grams).

Power and performance

As far as components are concerned, the Vernee Active comes very well stocked with a set that we can consider of the upper-mid-range. On the one hand, we have a processor Helio P25 Octa Core at 2.39GHz, ARM Mali-T880 MP2 GPU, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage space expandable up to an additional 128GB by card. All this, with Android 7.0 as an operating system.

The truth is that there are not many Android phones in the mid-range, rugged or not, that equip this type of hardware. A good processor to run almost any application or game, with remarkable RAM and enough internal space not to even need an additional memory card. In this sense we cannot fault Vernee's off-road phone. To give us an idea of its performance, it has a mark of 62,500 points in Antutu.

Camera and battery

For the rear camera Vernee has opted for a 16MP resolution lens made by Sony with an aperture of f / 2.2, Dual LED and autofocus. A camera that, without being double, at least shows a remarkable resolution. On the front, we find a just 8MP selfie camera.

The battery certainly must be strong if we are talking about a rugged phone. The Active features a stack of 4200mAh with fast charge via USB type C. A powerful battery, which without being brutal, helps to maintain above-average autonomy without raising the weight of the device too much.

Other features

The Vernee active has an NFC connection, fingerprint detector on the back, Dual SIM (nano + nano), Bluetooth 5.0 and GLONASS + GPS navigation system.

Price and availability

The Vernee Active was introduced at the end of 2017, and currently its price has been reduced to 229 euros, about $ 279.99, on GearBest. A price quite adequate for the characteristics that it fits.

Opinion and final assessment of the Vernee Active

[P_REVIEW post_id = 11273 visual = ’full’]

Currently we could say that we have 2 favorites in the rugged phone market. The Ulefone Armor 2 for those looking for an off-road but very attractive terminal, and the Vernee Active, a more sober smartphone with a less striking design, but just as resistant.

Of course, the Vernee Active has more storage space, and a better camera, but the Armor 2 a more powerful battery. Which one do you stay with? What is your favorite off-road mobile?
