The high-end mobile phone is going to run into a long-term problem. It seems that manufacturers are increasingly trying to find new ways to "saber" the user. We recently reached the symbolic top of 1000 euros with the latest range caps from Samsung and Apple, and now it is the turn of the folding screens. Some terminals, such as Samsung Galaxy Fold and the Huawei Mate X, which raise the bar above € 2,000. Xiaomi however continues his roll, and thus, he has just presented his new flagship, the Xiaomi Mi 9.
The company led by Lei Jun maintains the same dynamic as always, offering terminals with a really tight profit margin to gain prestige and increase sales to the maximum. Something that allows you to put a smartphone like the Xiaomi Mi 9 on the market for a price that barely reaches 450 euros.

The Xiaomi Mi 9 is presented as a logical evolution of the previous Xiaomi Mi 8. The frames have been reduced even a little more and the camera, which was already good, has taken a notable qualitative leap. There is some gray point like the battery -which has been reduced-, but we cannot ignore that at the power level it is the best that we are going to see in a long time.
Design and display
At the design level we find a terminal that mounts a 6.4-inch AMOLED Full HD + screen with a pixel density of 403ppi and brightness of 600 nits. All this with a Sunlight 2.0 mode to improve contrast and colors outdoors. Here the manufacturer, instead of opting for a perforated screen to insert the selfie camera, has preferred to continue with the notch. A notch that was already present in the Xiaomi Mi 8, but that now covers much less space, resulting in a front very similar to that of the Redmi Note 7. In general, a really elegant terminal, with curved edges and a quite Premium touch accomplished.
The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the screen, and as a detail to mention that there is still no 3.5mm input for the headphones - although the mobile includes a USB C to minijack adapter for the occasion. However, the speaker is much more powerful than the previous model, thanks to the system DMS dynamic gain control.
Its dimensions are 15.75 x 7.47 x 0.76cm and it has a weight of 173gr. It is available in black, blue and medium purple.
Power and performance
At the performance level we are facing a true brown beast. If the previous Mi 8 was already around 270,000 points in Antutu, the Xiaomi Mi 9 rises to 372,000 in the well-known benchmarking tool.
This result is explained when we see the guts of the device. Here we find the new 7nm Snapdragon 855 with improvements in AI running at 2.84GHz, 6GB / 8GB of RAM memory and 128GB of internal storage space. All this with Android 9 Pie at the wheel of the system.
Camera and battery
The camera is one of the high points of Xiaomi's latest top-of-the-line range. At the rear we find a triple camera optimized by AI: a 48MP main lens with f / 1.75 aperture accompanied by 2 additional 12MP (2X telephoto zoom) and 16MP (117-degree wide-angle lens) lenses. In the area of selfies, on the other hand, we have a more than correct 20MP front camera with beauty mode.
The battery is perhaps the weakest point of this terminal: a 3,300mAh battery with 27W fast charge and 20W Qi wireless charging. It is not a bad battery, on the contrary, but it can seem a bit short when compared to its competitors.
Connectivity and other features
It has a dual SIM slot (nano + nano), dual band ac WiFi, MiMO and Bluetooth 5.0. It also has NFC and Android Pay to make purchases with your mobile.
Price and availability
The great attraction of the Xiaomi Mi 9 is undoubtedly its price. Currently, one of the places where we can find it at a better price is on amazon, where do we find it available for only 449.00 euros.
This is your presale price, at the time of writing these lines. Tomorrow, February 28, it will go on sale officially, so it is possible that there will be changes in this regard with respect to its current cost.
And we can say little more about the Xiaomi Mi 9. A great smartphone for those looking for a premium terminal without sacrificing value for money that is the hallmark of the well-known Asian company. There are better phones, yes, but there are not many that can offer this pack of specifications for less than 500 euros. Xiaomi is one of them.
