UMIDIGI F1 in review, premium mid-range with Helio P60 and Android 9.0

Although the UMIDIGI F1 It officially came out in December, it seems that the wise men have not been able to distribute it on time, so, although we are already well into the month of January, there are still very few stores that have the freshest of UMI.

This UMIDIGI F1 has been going strong, with the juiciest specifications for those users who move more in the mid-range than anything else. It has a spectacular capacity, a very powerful processor, and the best, a very spare battery for the weight it presents. All this without taking into account that it is one of the first phones to work under the most recent version of Android to date.

UMIDIGI F1 in analysis, a balanced phone that can mark the step to follow within the mid-range

UMIDIGI has a tendency to name its terminals based on the most popular smartphones of the moment. Honestly, although it may serve to attract the occasional clueless one, I don't think it's the best of ideas. Above all, taking into account that, at least in this case, the physical resemblance of the new UMI has little to nothing to do with Xiaomi's POCOPHONE F1 in which it is inspired. And more so considering that the UMIDIGI F1 has enough reasons to assert itself. Anyway, they will see ...

Design and display

This F1 mounts an excellent screen 6.3-inch Full HD + (2340 x 1080p) with a pixel density of 409 ppi. A screen that covers 92.7% of the front, limiting the frames to their minimum expression, both at the top and at the bottom. There is still notch, yes, but in this case it is much smaller than what we are used to seeing usually.

As for the design as such, there is not much surprise: a mobile with curved edges, a fingerprint detector on the back and a double main camera positioned vertically. We can say that it is an elegant and subtle design, where what is most striking is undoubtedly its large screen.

The UMIDIGI F1 has dimensions of 15.70 x 7.50 x 0.90 cm, it is available in black, gold and lava red. Its weight is a more than correct 186 grams.

Power and performance

If we delve into the guts of the UMI F1 we discover quite interesting things. For example, an SoC Helio P60 Octa Core running at 2.0GHz, accompanied by 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a simply beastly storage capacity: 128GB of internal space. A memory that can also be expanded up to 256GB by means of an SD, if with this we do not have enough.

Another highlight of this phone is its operating system, and it is that we are faced with one of the first mid-range to use Android 9.0 Pie. Something that will undoubtedly work in their favor for those looking for a system that is as up-to-date as possible.

The UMIDIGI F1 also has NFC.

At the performance level, we must highlight the inclusion of the Helio P60, one of Mediatek's most powerful chips, which incorporates support for AI and offers better performance. To give us an idea, this translates into a result in Antutu of about 134,000 points. If we make a small comparison, this means that it offers a performance practically identical to that of the new Xiaomi Mi A2 (almost double that of the Xiaomi Mi A1, a mobile already quite nice), but with a much lower price than that of the Asian giant.

There is also no lack of unlocking through facial recognition.

Camera and battery

We enter delicate terrain. As you know, the camera is usually the weakest section in this type of mid-range mobile. Here UMIDIGI has saved the furniture by mounting a more than decent camera of 16MP + 8MP with f / 1.7 aperture thanks to which we can obtain better results than usual in low light environments. Obviously we are not going to find the same solvency as in a Galaxy S9 or an iPhone, but for the range in which we move it is the best that we are going to find. All this without forgetting the selfie camera, which mounts a lens of 16MP with face detection and beauty mode.

We come to another of the strengths of this terminal, autonomy. The UMIDIGI F1 equips a very spacious 5150mAh battery with charging via USB type C and fast charging function (18W). This undoubtedly increases the weight of the device, but as we have seen a little above, the manufacturer has achieved a noteworthy balance in this regard. 186 grams for a mobile of more than 5000mAh is quite a candy.

Price and availability

The truth is that it is difficult to know the official price that this UMIDIGI F1 will have. For now we can only find it in a couple of Chinese stores and its price is between 150 and 175 euros. In any case, if we move in that range we can venture to say that its value for money is worth taking into account.

UPDATED: The price of the UMIDIGI F1 is around 180 euros, about $ 200 to change, in sites like Amazon or GearBest.

In short, a phone that we should not lose sight of if we are looking for a mid-range with premium specifications, good screen and autonomy for a price that does not exceed 200 euros. Let's hope that the rest of the range competitors take note of UMIDIGI, because this is what we would all like to find from now on in this type of smartphones.
