MECOOL BB2 PRO, powerful TV Box with 3GB RAM and Amlogic S912 CPU

Today I am going to talk about my new Android TV Box, the MECOOL BB2 PRO. I've been with it for more than 3 months now, so I think it's a good time to give a verified opinion of the device.

I must admit that the BB2 PRO has been quite a noticeable leap in quality compared to my old Android TV box. Of course, that one behaved like a Valkyrie the time she was giving cane in the furniture of the living room. It was a 20-euro TV Box, so we couldn't demand too much of it ...

MECOOL BB2 PRO, a competent and excellent performance 3GB Android TV Box

Well yes, excellent performance. There is not much negative aspect to highlight about this TV Box, at least as far as efficiency and fluidity are concerned. But as Jack The Ripper would say, let's go by parts ...

Design and manufacturing

In this of the Chinese Android TV Boxes there is not much variety in terms of hardware - we have 3 or 4 types and little else. Also, most of them are quite unpleasant to look at. Therefore, one of the aspects that I took into account the most when choosing a new multimedia box was that it have a design that is as attractive as possible.

The MECOOL BB2 PRO features an elegant finish, with an attractive casing, and a logo that lights up and turns blue when we start the device. The materials with which it is made are of a higher than average quality, which, at least I, I greatly appreciate. Without a doubt, it is a TV Box that stands out in the aesthetic section.

Power and performance

The MECOOL BB2 PRO equips a processor Amlogic S912 Octa Core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU running at 1.5GHz, Mali-T820 GPU, 3GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space expandable with Android 7.1 as an operating system. It plays content in 4K, and has HDR and H.265 HEVC.

The difference in terms of performance and use of applications is brutal compared to low-end or mid-range TV Boxes with weaker processors. As a user of devices of both ranges, I sincerely believe that the price jump is more than justified, and it compensates a lot. Above all, if we are going to put it to good use.

When it comes to apps, Netflix works wonders, like YouTube and KODI. I have not tried other streaming apps like Amazon Prime or similar, but if you are curious you just have to ask me in the comments and I will try to answer you.

Another section in which this MECOOL BB2 PRO is handled really well is in the emulation. The performance with classic games from the NES, the Super Nintendo, Megadrive and the like is simply exceptional.

In any case, what I would recommend, as with most TV Boxes, is to replace the standard remote control with a controller with an integrated keyboard or an air mouse. Here you have a list of best remote controllers for Android TV Box.

Ports and connectivity

The BB2 PRO incorporates 2 USB ports, micro SD card slot, HDMI, AV, optical port and LAN port. It has Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity and supports WiFi ac and Dual Band (2.4G / 5G) networks. From what I have been able to verify, both the WiFi and the Bluetooth work without problems.

Price and availability

The MECOOL BB2 PRO currently has a price of 94.83 dollars, about 78 euros to change, on GearBest. A TV Box of excellent value for money. If we are not willing to spend 200 euros on a Nvidia Shield Android TV, this is the best we can aspire to, perhaps together with other devices, such as the My TV Box from Xiaomi.
