Chuwi Hi8 Air, the cheapest tablet PC with dual boot (Windows + Android)

When we talk about tablets and tablet PCs we always usually classify them into 2 types. On the one hand, we have the tablets that operate with Android and on the other hand, the most recent ones that work under Windows 10. The Chuwi Hi8 Air, however, falls into the third group: tablets with dual boot.

In today's review we talked about one of Chuwi's latest releases, the Chuwi Hi8 Air. An 8-inch tablet with an Intel processor and dual boot (Windows 10 and Android 5.1) for an extremely competitive price: less than 100 euros.

Chuwi Hi8 Air in review, an inexpensive and versatile pocket tablet

The Chuwi Hi8 Air is a mid-range tablet, with hardware that is not particularly dazzling but that knows how to play its cards very well, delivering a device that is very interesting and careful. Above all, if what we are looking for is a small tablet at an affordable price.

Design and display

The HI8 Air is a tablet with 8-inch LCD screen with Full HD resolution (1920x1080p), OGS laminate and a 16:10 aspect ratio. That is, a slightly wider screen than normal, with a really good image quality.

It presents a completely metallic design, with a thickness of only 8mm and a weight of 312gr. It incorporates a camera on the back and has a micro USB port, micro SD card slot, micro HDMI and 3.5mm headphone jack. A consistent finish in line with the rest of Chuwi devices.

Power and performance

The Chuwi Hi8 Air equips a very attractive hardware. On the one hand, we have a processor Intel Cherry Trail x5-Z8350 Quad Core running at 1.44GHz, Intel HD Graphic (Gen8) CPU, 2GB of RAM and 32GB internal storage expandable. All this with the great incentive that is its dual system with Windows 10 and Android 5.1. It has both WiFi and Bluetooth connection and supports USB OTG.

Let's say that they are not a component for many brags. It is not a device for heavy editing tasks or for playing super powerful games. However, it offers great versatility allowing you to take advantage of the two main operating systems of the tablet ecosystem. We can install the classic Windows office programs, and the most common Android apps and games, all on the same device. That for a lot is pure gold.

Undoubtedly everything would be much more beautiful with 3 or 4GB of RAM, but remember that we are facing an 8-inch with Intel CPU that is barely around 100 euros. And in that area it is a tablet that can do a lot of damage to its competitors.

Camera and battery

When it comes to the camera, this Hi8 Air from Chuwi follows the same path as most tablets. A normal lens for occasional use with 2MP resolution, both on the back and on the front.

The battery for its part has a capacity of 4000mAh. A balanced figure for a compact device.

Price and availability

The Chuwi Hi8 Air has just been presented in society, and it is already available for a reduced price of $ 119.99, about 99 euros to change, on GearBest. This promotion will be active between February 5 and 12, with a free protective cover for the first 200 units.

Next, the tablet will enjoy a flash offer that will leave its price at $ 129.99, about 105 euros. From that date, its official price will be $ 139.99, about 113 to change.

In short, we are facing a pocket tablet with a screen and quality finishes whose greatest virtue is being able to choose between Android and Windows according to our needs at all times. In addition, it runs away from the usual Mediatek processors and offers OTG and HDMI output. There are not many devices that can offer this at that price. A tablet to consider.
