Android Pay: What it is, how it works and where it can be used

Mobile payment services are booming. The possibility of being able to pay in the real world with our phone is an idea that does not stop gaining followers. Of course Google also wants its share of the cake, and for this, it is increasingly adding more and more value to its dedicated service, Android Pay.

What is Android Pay?

Android Pay is a service that allows us to make payments in stores and establishments with the use of the mobile phone. It was presented at Google I / O in 2015, and we could say that it is the successor to Google Wallet (a service that is still used to send money, in the style of PayPal).

In addition to working on mobile phones, it is also compatible with some smartwatches on the market, as long as they have NFC technology –Industrial requirement to be able to use Android Pay-.

How does Android Pay work?

For practical purposes, it is a matter of installing an app, and when going to pay, for example, in the supermarket, we simply have to bring the mobile closer to the reader of the box. The mobile sends a signal by NFC with the payment details, which are recorded in the cashier terminal. An easy way to pay for goods and services without using a credit card.

Android Pay also has security systems, such as the possibility of adding payment confirmation by fingerprint or password.

How is it different from other services like Samsung Pay or Apple Pay?

In the case of Apple Pay the difference is obvious: this only works on iPhone or Apple devices, although for practical purposes they are quite similar, and both use NFC technology to make payments.

Samsung Pay, on the other hand, yes it is different, since In addition to using NFC technology, it also uses MST technology (Safe Magnetic Transmission) to process purchases. Some of the newer Galaxy models have a small magnetic roll built into the phone, which basically fools card readers into thinking that we are paying with a regular credit card. Unfortunately, only a few Samsung devices currently support the use of Samsung Pay.
