MiniBook, Chuwi's First Pocket Notebook with Intel® M3-8100Y + M.2

Since Chuwi introduced the MiniBook At the recent Hong Kong Sourcing Fair, the device received great interest from the public. Recently, the well-known manufacturer based in Shenzhen, China, has revealed new data about the next ultra portable pocket computer (UMPC) of the company.

The first thing that we have been able to know is that the pre-sale phase will arrive in the not too distant future, taking advantage of the growing “revival” that this type of UMPC machines are experiencing.

Chuwi MiniBook Specifications

Regarding its characteristics, it will have the following set of specifications.

  • Ultra portable small size with 360 ° YOGA design.
  • Fully laminated 8.0 inch IPS touch screen.
  • Intel® Core ™ M3-8100Y / Intel® Celeron® N4100 processor.
  • 8GB dual-channel memory and 128GB of internal storage.
  • Support for M.2 SSD and TF slot for micro SD cards.
  • Narrow-edged full keyboard.
  • USB Type-C port with support for fast charging (PD 2.0) and data / video transmission.
  • Active heat dissipation system.

Intel® Core ™ Processor M3-8100Y 14nm ++

Considering the specifications and the first images of this new mini-notebook, it is clear that Chuwi has decided to bet heavily on this MiniBook. Not only because it is the company's first UMPC: it is also Chuwi's first computer to equip an Intel® Core ™ M3-8100Y processor, thus becoming one of the first 8100Y notebooks to hit stores.

Introduced as a more advanced and updated version of the 7Y30, the 8100Y offers Intel 14nm ++ technology, with 2 cores and 4 threads with a frequency in turbo mode that reaches up to 3.4GHz. It also features Intel's 8W TDP-up (Thermal Design Power), a UHD Graphics 615 GPU clocked at up to 900MHz, for increased system speed and performance.

8GB of LPDD3 RAM, 128GB EMMC and M.2 SSD slot

In terms of storage, in addition to the 8GB RAM and 128GB EMMC internal storage, the MiniBook also incorporates a slot for the latest M.2 SSD and micro SD, which can be used to make a upgrade and increase speed and storage capacity to stratospheric levels.

Due to the drop in prices that SSDs are suffering, Chuwi wants to facilitate their use by offering one M.2 port in the new MiniBook, thus allowing users to choose the SSD that best suits their needs.

Ports and connectivity

Regarding the input and output ports, the MiniBook is equipped with a USB Type-C port that Supports PD 2.0 fast charge (USB Power Delivery 2.0) and video / audio / data transmission. The laptop also mounts a Mini-HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In this way, the new CHuwi MiniBook injects freshness and vitality into the UMPC industry, which had stagnated due to a lack of innovation in terms of performance and battery. Now, with the emergence of low-voltage Intel Core CPUs and recent new autonomy and storage technologies, the Chuwi MiniBook stands as a prime example of what a 2019-spec pocket computer should look like.

The latest information suggests that the MiniBook will go on sale on Indiegogo in mid-June at a discounted price of around $ 600. More information on the official Chuwi website.
