In the last year I have not reviewed many mobile phones and I want to get back on track a bit so that we can keep up to date as much as possible with the new devices that are being launched on the market. Therefore, in today's post we are going to take a look at the Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1, a terminal that went on the market in 2018, but that today has more than enough wickers to continue being a bet to take into account.
We are facing one of the few devices below 100 euros that mounts a Qualcomm Snapdragon chip, with a much higher performance than most smartphones that move at the same price bracket. In addition, both the battery, the screen and the camera perform at a more than decent level, but let's go by parts ...
Asus ZenFone Max Pro M1 in review, a mega-budget device with mid-range features
Within the Asus Max Pro line there are 2 models, this M1 and the Max Pro M2. The latter, a very similar terminal but with a larger screen, notch and a Snapdragon 660 SoC that gave it more processing power (143,000 points in Antutu). Unfortunately the M2 is discontinued, so it is impossible to get one of those terminals today.
Design and display
That said, and focusing on the Max Pro M1, we find a smartphone that mounts an excellent 5.99-inch Full HD + (2160 x 1080p) display. A very high density IPS panel with 403 pixels per inch, 2.5D curved edge glass and a 1500: 1 contrast ratio. In short, a most attractive screen.
At the design level, we are facing a classic mobile phone, without notch or embedded camera or strange things, very much in line with the terminals that we could see a couple of years ago in stores. The fingerprint reader is placed on the back and has a housing with an aluminum finish available in black and gray colors. It has dimensions of 76 x 159 x 8.5 mm and its weight is 180 grams. A terminal of the lightest if we take into account that it includes a very beast battery of 5,000mAh.
Power and performance
Getting into the guts of this little beast we see that it rides an SoC 64-bit Snapdragon 636 Octa Core running at 1.8GHz, with Adreno 509 GPU, 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 32GB of internal storage space expandable up to 2TB via SD. The operating system is Android 8.0 Oreo.
To give us an idea of its power, we are looking at a terminal with a result in Antutu of about 110,000 points. A performance very similar to that of the Samsung Galaxy M20, Samsung's bet for the mid-range (although for less than half its price).
Camera and battery
Regarding the photographic section, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 equips a double rear camera with a main sensor of 13MP with aperture f / 2.2 and a pixel size of 1.12 µm and a 5MP wide angle lens. In the selfies area, it has an 8MP front camera with a pixel size of 1.12 µm. In general lines we can say that it is a medium quality camera, with very good results in daytime photos but that suffers in night or poorly lit environments (something common in the mid-range).
The battery is another story, and as we have mentioned a little above, this Max Pro M1 includes one of the most powerful batteries on the market, with 5,000mAh and fast charging. For practical purposes, this gives us an autonomy that ranges between a day and a half and 2 days of use.
Connectivity
This Asus Zenfone incorporates Bluetooth 4.2, Dual SIM (nano + nano), USB On-The-Go, VoLTE, headphone jack and FM radio.
Price and availability
The Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 has a usual price of about 112 euros, although currently we can get it for € 93.55 on GearBest thanks to a flash offer that will be active for the next 3 days.
In short, if we are looking for a phone that is as cheap as possible, without pops but that offers good performance, this is one of the most interesting alternatives that we can find today, since it has mid-range and quality components, but at the same time Having been on the market for almost 2 years, its price has dropped significantly.
