UMI (currently known as UMIDIGI) has always moved like a fish in water in the Chinese mid-range Android. But over the years it has also tried to carve out a niche in the low-end range. And that is something that is to be appreciated, since their designs are usually quite successful and are more colorful than what we are used to seeing usually in these low price ranges. In today's review we paste a brief review of the company's latest contribution in this regard, the UMIDIGI A3 Pro.
UMI has launched 2 different models of this terminal. On the one hand, we have the UMIDIGI A3 Pro (3GB + 32GB) and a lighter version with 3GB RAM and 16GB of internal space.
UMIDIGI A3 Pro in review, an affordable terminal with notch that looks really good
Only a couple of years ago it would be unthinkable to see one of these terminals mounting 3GB of RAM. Until recently, the most common thing was that they equipped 1GB or maybe 2, which allows us to be talking about a fully functional terminal without leaving the orbit of 100 euros. A small advance that is an achievement for the most humble range of Android.
Design and display
The UMIDIGI A3 Pro mounts a 5.7-inch panel with an HD + resolution of 1512 x 720p and a pixel density of 293ppi. An almost frameless panel that occupies practically the entire front thanks to the inclusion of the always controversial notch.
Regarding the design, we have a terminal with curved edges, with a double camera in a vertical arrangement on the back, fingerprint detector and a metallic casing that is available in both gold and black.
The A3 Pro has dimensions of 147.20 x 7.02 x 0.85cm and a weight of 187 grams. In general, it is an elegant phone, we would say that it is even attractive thanks to the notch and its large screen. It is definitely not a light phone, but it is not heavy either, staying in a fairly adequate middle ground considering its dimensions and the range in which we operate.
Power and performance
In the guts of this UMIDIGI we discover some really balanced guts. At the head an SoC MTK6739 Quad Core running at 1.5GHz –Mediatek Basic 4G series processor-, with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage expandable by card up to 256GB. The operating system is Android 8.1 Oreo. This same model also has a lighter version of 3GB + 16GB and another of 2GB + 16GB.
For performance purposes we can expect the usual in this type of device. A good performance with most Android apps, but it will suffer as it cannot be otherwise if we try to play games with too much graphic load for long periods of time.
We do not have a concrete figure for its benchmarking performance in Antutu, but considering the UMIDIGI A3 with 2GB RAM scored 33,000 points, we can assume that it will walk in a very similar range.
Camera and battery
Focusing on the artistic section of the A3 Pro, we see that it fits a more than decent double rear lens of 12MP + 5MP with f / 2.0 aperture and 1.25µm pixel size. One of the components that the manufacturer has most pampered, after the design and the screen. The front camera for its part has a resolution of 8MP with facial recognition -Face ID-.
We finish talking about the battery: a 3,300mAh batterywith micro USB charging that offers a more than favorable autonomy thanks to the low consumption of the processor (mounting a chip with moderate performance also has its good things).
As for the rest of the characteristics, indicate that it also has Bluetooth 4.0, slot for dual nano SIM + an additional slot for the SD, FM radio and 3.5mm mini jack port for headphones. It also has excellent connectivity: in Spain it is compatible with all 2G, 3G and 4G bands on the market.
Price and availability
The price of the UMIDIGI A3 Pro varies depending on the model we want to purchase:
- UMIDIGI A3 Pro (3GB RAM + 32GB ROM):107.12 euros, about $ 120.35 to change. | To see in GearBest
- UMIDIGI A3 Pro (3GB RAM + 16GB ROM): 90 euros, about $ 109.99 to change | To see in GearBest
In short, a good alternative for those looking for a mobile phone with all the basics, a decent camera, an attractive design and a colorful screen. It does not have the best performance in the world -like any other smartphone of this price, inevitably-, but if all we want is to navigate, make calls, watch videos and use a couple of applications for this and that, with this terminal of just 100 euros we have one of the most pleasant proposals in recent months.
