I must admit it. I've never gotten along with WiFi extenders. I bought one of these signal boosters almost 10 years ago and the experience was terrible. I never got to configure it correctly. They were 60 euros thrown away, after many failed attempts and much frustration. Today, I have fallen in love with WiFi extenders again. The culprit: a device called TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE.
TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE in review, the best WiFi range extender for home at a reasonable price
The best thing about the TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE is not that it is cheap "That is certainly a very important factor." The great thing about this accessory is that it is incredibly easy to set up.
In addition, it has quite a remarkable power and range. Be careful, it also has its disadvantages, but for a floor of about 100 square meters it is probably the most recommended WiFi repeater. Why?
Technical specifications
In the technical section, the TL-WA850RE offers the following features:
- Speed up to 300Mbps.
- 10 / 100Mbps Ethernet port.
- AP mode ("Access Point" or access point).
- Compatible with WPS.
On an aesthetic level, the TP-Link device is shaped like a small box that connects to the plug. The design is quite modern, sober and goes easily unnoticed with the decoration of the living room or any other room in the house.
Configuration of the TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE
As I mentioned at the beginning, in my opinion this is the most satisfactory point of the TL-WA850RE. It is compatible with both routers with WPS and those that do not have this feature.
To give you an idea of how easy we can put it to work, I explain its configuration process by WPS in 3 lines:
- You plug the WiFi extender into a socket near the router.
- Activate the WPS button on the router.
- Next, you press the sync button on the TL-WA850RE.
That easy. Once it is synchronized with our WiFi networkWe just have to unplug the range extender and take it somewhere between the router and the area with the worst signal in the house.
If we do not have WPS in our router, things change a bit, but it is still a very simple configuration to carry out. In that sense, it is an outstanding device.
Improved signal quality. Is it a good WiFi repeater?
The TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE is a wireless extender with a power of 300Mbps. There are signal repeaters of 720Mbps and up to 1200Mbps. Do we have enough then with 300Mbps?
It depends. In most cases the answer will be positive. In my particular situation, in a house of about 100m2, I was having problems playing videos on YouTube, Netflix kept loading every two by three, and from time to time the PS4 online would get a little hung up. The router is in one room, and the TV and the console are in the living room.
With this new extender all coverage problems have gone down in history. So clear and blunt.
This little accessory has been more than welcome in the living room.However, if the area we want to cover is more extensive (a villa, a hotel or similar), or if we want to play really heavy streaming content, then we may need a little more spark. For the rest, this is the most effective and economical solution to cover the needs of an average user.
Price and availability
Currently the TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE WiFi Extender as of March 19, 2018, It has a price of around 20 euros in Amazon Spain. A cheap device that more than compensates for the financial outlay it entails. Today it is the best-selling WiFi extender in the store.
Opinion and final assessment of the TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE

Is the TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE worth buying? If we live in a medium-sized apartment, or if we have a bar or small place, it is not necessary that we leave a good ticket in a Powerline PLC or a much more powerful extender to have good coverage in all rooms. For these cases, this device is a more than pertinent solution.
Although the TL-WA850RE also has its shortcomings, such as the absence of dual 5G connection. A type of WiFi that is not used that often, but that is still a factor to consider.
If we are looking for a good, nice and cheap WiFi signal amplifier, the TP-Link N300 TL-WA850RE is a gadget that will give us very nice results. Totally recommendable.
