Xiaomi Mi Max 3 in analysis, Xiaomi's largest mobile

It seems that with the standardization of frameless screens, mobiles tend to be more compact. The fact that more space is used to add more screen without increasing the size of the terminal has made the "phablets" no longer so popular.

But there are people who still prefer a mobile phone halfway between a smartphone and a tablet. For them, Xiaomi has launched the new Mi Max 3, a terminal with a marvelous 6.9-inch screen.

Xiaomi Mi Max 3 in analysis: when size does matter

In today's review we talk about the Xiaomi Mi Max 3, the largest phone in the Asian giant. A mid-range terminal equipped with a large tonnage battery and more than interesting specifications.

Design and display

The Xiaomi Mi Max, as we mentioned at the beginning, mounts a nearly 7-inch screen with Full HD + resolution (2160 x 1080p) with a pixel density of 345ppi. The fingerprint reader is located on the back, it has a 3.5mm headphone jack and the charging port is a USB type C.

It has an aluminum housing, is available in black and its dimensions are 17.60 x 8.74 x 0.80 cm (that is, a little larger than the previous Mi Max 2). Its weight is 221 grams. As is usual in all the terminals of the brand, the manufacture and finish are of high quality. An elegant and attractive terminal to look at.

With these data we are clear that it is a large-scale device. A phone that may not be very manageable with one hand, but hey! Assembling a really large screen is what you have: either we have big and sturdy hands, or we are looking for a slightly smaller display.

Power and performance

Xiaomi does not usually play a lot when it comes to assembling the hardware of its devices. It is more about betting on a winning horse, and that is what we also find in this Mi Max 3. A mid-range terminal with a SoC 14nm Snapdragon 636 Octa Core running at 1.8GHz, Adreno 509 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal space to save photos, video and documents galore. The operating system controlling the device is a Android 8.1 with MIUI 9 customization layer.

For performance purposes this translates intoa score of 118,397 points in Antutu. A figure that is not bad at all and that ensures a certain stability when using any app or game that we want to install.

Camera and battery

For the photographic section, the Xiaomi Mi Max 3 opts for a 12MP + 5MP dual rear camera (Samsung S5K2L7) with aperture f / 1.9 and a pixel size of 1,400µm. On the front we find an 8MP selfie camera with f / 2.0 aperture and 1,120 µm. A good camera with which we can obtain the famous bokeh effect, and that also has Artificial Intelligence to recognize objects and scenes.

The battery is another of the distinguishing points of the Mi Max 3. A battery of 5,500mAh with OTG compatible USB C charging, which means that we can use it to charge other devices as if it were a power bank.

Other functionalities

This Mi Max 3 has a nano SIM slot, FM Radio, Bluetooth 5.0 and dual band WiFi AC (2.4G / 5G). Of course, it does not have NFC connectivity to make payments from the mobile, a specification that some will miss in Xiaomi's Goliath.

Price and availability

The Xiaomi Mi Max 3 went on sale in July 2018, and we can currently get hold of it for a price of 249.99 dollars, about 220 euros, on GearBest. We can also find it on other sites such as Amazon for prices around 250 euros.

In short, a terminal with a large screen and excellent image quality, which will delight those looking for a consistent terminal with a large battery. It is good value for money, but if raw performance is what we are looking for then maybe we should take a look at the Xiaomi Mi A2, which just came out recently and has better specs (but yes, the screen is much smaller).
