Chuwi Hi 9 Air in analysis, 10 ”tablet with 2K screen and Android 8.0

In the first quarter of 2018 Chuwi announced what would be its new flagship tablet for the Android market, the Chuwi Hi 9 Air. His departure date was scheduled for mid-April, so now that he's on the street, it's time to give him a little review.

In today's review we take a look at the Chuwi Hi 9 Air, a 10.1-inch tablet with a high resolution screen, dual SIM, 4GB of RAM and Android 8.0. We started!

Chuwi Hi 9 Air in analysis, a modern tablet adapted to the times

Due to the proliferation of phablets and 2-in-1 tablets with Windows 10, it is difficult to find a consistent Android tablet today. Either we opt for devices with a couple of years of life behind them (with Android 6.0 or lower), or we directly go for a low-end tablet to do the trick.

Luckily, there are still companies like Chuwi that bet on this type of device. It's still mid-range, but at least we have premium features and some components adapted to what we can expect from a tablet in 2018.

Design and display

As far as the display is concerned, the Hi 9 Air mounts a fully laminated OGS panel made of 10.1 inches with 2.5K resolution of (2560 x 1600p) and a brightness of 400 cd / m2. It has an ultra-thin thickness and dimensions of 24.17 x 17.20 x 0.79 cm.

It has a metallic finish with a black housing and I treat camera in the rear area as in the front. It has a 3.5mm jack input for headphones, a micro SD slot, and dual SIM.

This is an important detail, since thanks to the SIM we can use the tablet as if it were a smartphone, and make calls, install WhatsApp (something impossible in most tablets) etc. The Chuwi Hi 9 Air supports the following networks:

  • GSM: band 2/3/5/8
  • WCDMA: band 1/2/5/8
  • LTE: band 1/2/3/5/7/8/20/40

It also has Dual band WiFi (2.4G / 5G) and Bluetooth 4.2.

Power and performance

Regarding the performance of the device, we find some more than interesting characteristics. On the one hand, we have the Helio X20, a ten-core CPU running at 2.3GHz, accompanied by 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable by micro SD up to 128GB. As an operating system, the aforementioned Android 8.0 Oreo.

At the level of pure and hard power, the best that we can find in Android tablets today. Very much in the line of other similar tablets like the ALLDOCUBE X1, but with a much larger battery and a more recent version of Android.

Camera and battery

We are facing a tablet with characteristics very similar to those of any smartphone. This means that the camera also has a certain presence on the Chuwi Hi 9 Air, in the form of a 13MP rear lens and another frontal (much more humble) of 5MP.

The battery is another of the strengths of this device: a battery of 8000mAh with USB Type-C charging. According to the manufacturer, this translates into 72 hours of stand-by duration or 5.5 hours of intensive use.

Price and availability

The Chuwi Hi 9 Air currently has a price of 187.93 euros, about $ 219 to change, on Gearbest. Good value for money, especially when compared to the aforementioned ALLDOCUBE X1, which is priced slightly higher at the moment.

In short, one of the best (and one of the few) proposals in terms of Android tablets in 2018. In addition, we see that they have been quite contained in the price, which undoubtedly helps to see this with very good eyes. Hi 9 Air.
