Elephone S8 in analysis, a flagship killer with 2K screen and Helio X25

Elephone is one of the most prominent Chinese brands within the mid-range. The Elephone S8, the company's latest mobile, is committed to a terminal with a large, quality screen, a premium design, the best Mediatek CPU and a good camera.

Elephone S8 in review, the most balanced Elephone top of the range to date

As always, we will move in a price range close to 200 euros, which helps to understand the enormous success that these types of smartphones are having in recent times: their great value for money.

Design and display

The appearance and finish of the Elephone S8 screen is one of its greatest attractions. On the one hand, we have a 6-inch frameless screen made by Sharp with 2K resolution (2560 x 1440p) and 403ppi. All this with a metallic 3D curved glass case that gives it a really elegant premium touch.

In the rear area we only find the S8 camera and the logo of the house, while the fingerprint reader has been located on the front panel, in the central physical button of the device.

The Elephone S8 has a weight of 180gr and dimensions of 15.80 x 8.00 x 0.80 cm.

Power and performance

As for the guts of this new Elephone, we discovered frankly competent hardware. A CPU Helio X25 Deca Core running at 2.5GHz, 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal storage not expandable, next to Android Stock 7.1.1.

The fact of not incorporating 6GB of RAM -something quite common in mobiles of this type- is not a problem, since it has a really good processor. But the fact of not having an SD slot does cloud the overall spec chart a bit. It is clear that with 64GB we will have plenty of space, but there are always people who need a little extra.

With regard to the performance and fluidity of the phone, Elephone has always enjoyed a practically non-existent layer of customization, which is accentuated in this Android stock, clean of applications and bloatware that most users detest.

To get a better idea of the power of this Elephone S8, we can say that has a score in Antutu of 87,550 points. A performance far superior to mobiles like the Xiaomi Mi A1 or the recent Ulefone Power 3.

Camera and battery

Entering the photographic section, we see that the S8 equips an 8MP front camera and a rear one of 21MP with flash and autofocus made by Sony, with photosensitive elements for better results in low light environments.

Finally, as far as autonomy is concerned, the Elephone S8 mounts a powerful 4000mAh battery with USB type C charging.

Price and availability

The Elephone S8 has just gone on sale, and because of this GearBest is offering the first 200 units for a price of 206.12 euros, about $ 239.99 to change. Its usual price is about 230 euros. The terminal is available in black, blue and red colors.

Opinion and final assessment of the Elephone S8

Is it worth getting an Elephone S8? The truth is that whoever writes these lines currently has a terminal from this house, more specifically the Elephone P8 mini. Considering that it has a much more modest processor and that it works like a shot, I don't even want to think about how the new S8 has to perform.

In addition, it has a really good screen to view photos, series and multimedia content, along with a good battery and a camera above the average of this type of terminal.

Of course, if its 64GB of storage is going to fall short, we should think of some other alternative, since in that sense the Elephone S8 does not leave much room for improvement. If with 64 gigs we are left over, then go ahead.
