Since the Huawei P20 Pro We have not stopped seeing Chinese smartphones that try to imitate the design of this incredible mobile phone. At the hardware level, it is impossible to get close to Huawei's titan, but for a small part of its price, we can find interesting mid-range mobiles such as the Elephone A4 Pro or the Umidigi Z2.
Today we talk about the approach to the P20 Pro by another of the best-known Chinese brands within the mid-range, Cubot. The new Cubot P20 is probably the cheapest clone of the Huawei P20 Pro currently, and yes, it also has a notch - how could it be otherwise, of course-.
Cubot P20 in review, a very well-priced clone with Full HD + screen and 4,000mAh battery
The Cubot P20 is a mobile that by price is dangerously close to the low range, but in terms of components it has several more than interesting highlights in the line of the best mid-range of 2018.
Design and display
One of the first things that have surprised me about this Cubot P20 is its screen. Accustomed to seeing panels with lower resolutions, it is a pleasure to find a screen of 6.18 ”in Full HD + (2246 x 1080) and 408ppi format.
Another detail that we must always check when looking at mobiles that are around 200 euros is their weight. In this case we do not have to worry either, since we are facing a light terminal, which remains in some more than correct 167 grams.
As for the rest of the design of the P20, there is not much more to say: a beautiful mobile whose main attraction is undoubtedly the notch and that aspect so similar to the Huawei P20 Pro -except for the obvious distances-. The terminal is available in color black, blue and Twilight black.
Power and performance
At the hardware level we are facing an efficient mid-range, but without too many pretensions. The P20 mounts an SoC MTK6750T Octa Core 1.5GHz, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage expandable to 128GB and Android 8.0 as an operating system.
In short, a good performance mobile for day to day, which is up to the standard with most apps and games on the market, but with certain limitations when it comes to handling too heavy games or multimedia editing tasks. The usual in devices of this range.
For practical purposes, this translates into a benchmarking result in Antutu of 41,500 points.
Camera and battery
In the photographic section the Cubot P20 bets on a powerful double camera of 20MP + 2MP with f / 2.0 aperture and a 13MP selfie camera.
With regard to autonomy, the terminal equips a generous battery of 4,000mAh with micro USB charging. A large capacity battery that unfortunately does not have a connection via USB type C, something that we miss and that would have been the icing on the cake.
As for the rest of the features, it should be noted that it has a double SIM slot (nano + nano), 3.5mm headphone jack, Bluetooth 4.0 connection and FM radio. It also incorporates a fingerprint reader in the case, although it has not yet made the leap to unlocking through facial recognition.
Price and availability
The Cubot P20 is available now, and is currently available for purchase for a reduced price of149.99 $, about 131.25 € to change, on GearBest. An offer that will be active until the end of October. It is also available on other sites such as Amazon, for a price slightly less than 200 euros.
A good value for money smartphone with remarkable details such as the screen, a good battery, a decent camera and a perfect weight. What else can we ask for from the cheapest clone of the Huawei P20 Pro? If we get it at a good price, a more than interesting alternative.
