Elephone A4 Pro in review, new affordable clone of the Huawei P20 Pro

It seems that the Huawei P20 Pro is marking school. You already know that a good way to measure the success of a terminal is the number of clones and Chinese imitations that come onto the market. In that sense, the Elephone A4 Pro joins the catalog of "inspired" mobiles in the jewel of the Asian manufacturer.

Let's be clear. This is not the first (nor the best) clone of the Huawei P20 Pro that we see around here. There we have the UMIDIGI Z2 Pro, with colors that are closer to the "Twilight" flavor of the original and up to 6GB of RAM.

The new Elephone model, on the other hand, removes its own gradient color from its sleeve and mounts "only" 4GB of RAM. In return, it offers a result in Antutu slightly higher than the UMI model and is also cheaper. But let's go into detail ...

Design and display

The Elephone A4 Pro equips a 5.85-inch screen with HD + resolution (1512 x 720p) and the inevitable notch or top notch. The frame is made of stainless steel and its crystallized casing gives it a premium touch that is always appreciated (yes, you already know that this type of finish usually leaves many marked marks).

The terminal has dimensions of 15.04 x 7.28 x 0.80 cm, weighs 189 grams - medium level weight - and is available in black and "Medium Orchid”. The latter, made with a technique that the manufacturer has called "Nebula Gradient", and that it is a gradient that goes from blue to fuchsia. The fingerprint detector, this time, is placed on one side of the phone.

Power and performance

The hardware is one of the best aspects of the A4 Pro. On the one hand, we have an SoC Helio P23 Octa Core at 2.0GHz, 4GB of RAM and 64GB internal storage expandable up to 256GB by card. The operating system, Android 8.1 Oreo.

Thanks to the Mediatek Helio P line chip we have a performance that exceeds the usual smartphones with MTK6750 chips - the most common in this price range. At the benchmarking level we have seen several results, but we can say that it has a score that pivots between the 62,000 and the 80,000 points in Antutu. Not bad.

Camera and battery

When it comes to the camera, the new Elephone smartphone fits a 16MP rear camera with flash and autofocus. For the selfie zone, an 8MP lens. A camera without many frills, but with a good level of resolution.

For the battery, the manufacturer has chosen a 3000mAh battery with fast charging via micro USB. Here the USB type C is missing and a little more capacity, but we take comfort in knowing that the loading times will be really low.

Connectivity

Regarding the rest of the functionalities, comment that the A4 Pro has a slot for Dual SIM (nano + nano), Bluetooth 4.0, face unlock, Dual WiFi and support for FDD-LTE, GSM, TDD-LTE and WCDMA networks.

The Elephone A4 Pro is in the pre-sale phase, and currently It can be obtained for $ 179.99, about 159 euros to change, on GearBest. The pre-sale will be active during August 17 and 31, and shipments are made from September 3.

In short, we are facing a terminal that pulls a lot of image. It looks notch, it looks infinite screen and even a gradient in its crystallized casing that makes it a candy to behold.

The performance points to quite good levels for what is a mid-range of 150 euros. However, we miss a screen with a Full HD resolution and perhaps a slightly lighter weight, taking into account that the battery is also somewhat lighter than usual. We cannot say that it is heavy, but 10 or 15 grams less would help us see it with better eyes.

For the rest, an efficient phone with a more than attractive aesthetic.
