Blackview A20 in analysis, a mobile with Android Go for less than € 50

Blackview has just introduced the Blackview A20, an ultra economical mobile that does not exceed 50 euros in price. It is one of the few smartphones that currently incorporates the new Android Go, the lightest version of Android Oreo specially designed to offer good performance on phones with limited resources.

In today's review we talk about the Blackview A20, an entry-level smartphone that does not renounce the 18: 9 format for its screen and that also dares with a double camera for the rear of the terminal.

Blackview A20 in review, a smartphone for those who seek functionality above all

Let no one be fooled. The A20 is not a phone for the average Android user. We are talking about a low-resource terminal that is especially aimed at those who need a phone, but do not want, cannot, or simply do not need a high-performance smartphone.

Can we call on the phone? Yes. Can we talk on WhatsApp? Too. Can we surf the Internet? Of course. Are we willing to spend 100 euros or more to use these basic functions? No. In such a case, the Blackview A20 may be just what we are looking for.

Design and display

The Blackview A20 features a display of 5.5 inches with a resolution of 960x480p, 195ppi, and an aspect ratio of 18: 9. It has dimensions of 14.60 x 7.07 x 0.96 cm, a weight of 170 grams and is available in black, gold and Blue lagoon.

At the design level, it is a fairly sober phone. It does not have a fingerprint reader: a shame, yes. But at least visually it has a fairly elegant finish. Something to keep in mind in the case of a phone with such an ultra cheap price.

A curious detail: both the headphone jack and the micro USB port are located on the top of the phone, next to the camera.

Power and performance

This Blackview A20 assembles the right components and necessary to function: a CPU MTK6580 Quad Core 1.3GHz, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storageinternal expandable via SD. The good news is that it has Android 8.1 Oreo Go Edition.

This means that the system is fully optimized to make the best use of your existing hardware. For practical purposes, this translates into an operating system that takes up less space in internal memory, applications that are lighter than usual, greater savings in mobile data, and an ecosystem of apps such as Files Go or Google Assistant aimed at facilitating and optimizing user experience and data management.

We are not going to have a powerful device, but at least it will work smoothly and we will make the most of that GB of RAM and those 8 internal gigabytes. His performance in Antutu is 20,198 points.

Camera and battery

In the artistic section Blackview has delivered a small lure. The camera is a bit poor, but at least it puts us a 5.0MP + 0.3MP dual lens with flash and autofocus on the back. On the front, we find a small 2.0MP camera.

With regard to autonomy, this Blackview A20 mounts a 3000mAh battery with micro USB charging. A correct battery that should last a little longer than necessary thanks to Android Go and the device's low resource consumption.

Connectivity

This smartphone has Bluetooth 4.1, 2 nano SIM slots and supports 2G (GSM 850/900/1800 / 1900MHz) and 3G (WCDMA 900 / 2100MHz) networks.

What do the specialized media think of the Blackview A20?

As always, and to have a more global perspective, let's take a look at the opinions expressed by specialized media about this mobile:

  • Pro Android: «… By moving such a clean and optimized layer, the hardware will not have any problems for the day to day.
  • The IT Group: "The Blackview A20 is the cheapest device from the manufacturer, but still functional for basic users."
  • Computer Today: "These features, which at first may seem somewhat lacking for a conventional Android smartphone, are more than enough to obtain good performance"

In general, everyone is in charge of highlighting the same thing: that it is a very cheap mobile, of the entry range, but with the great advantage of having Android Go in order to obtain better performance.

In short, a phone especially suitable for young people who start with their first smartphone, or for adults who move on from technology but need a mobile with which they can communicate and perform basic day-to-day tasks.
