After the successful Elephone S7, a smartphone clearly inspired by Samsung's well-known Galaxy S7 and which gave such good results to the Asian company, Elephone presents the Elephone P8 mini. We are already anticipating that the term "mini" only refers to the size of the terminal, since, looking at other aspects, we discovered a very well-equipped device and unusual to see among the mobile offers on the current market.
In today's review we take a look at the Elephone P8 mini, a compact terminal with really attractive specifications and an adjusted price like few others. Shall we take a look at it?
Design and display
Although the name of the P8 reminds us in a certain way of Samsung S8, how true it is the similarities between both terminals do not go much further, at least as far as design and appearance are concerned.
We are facing a compact device, which flee from the current trend of phablets with a giant screen and delivers a lightweight 5-inch that fits perfectly in your pocket. With rounded edges, with touch buttons on the front and a fingerprint sensor located on the back, the Elephone P8 comes in 3 different colors: red, blue and black.
The device has an excellent screen with 1080p Full HD resolution and 95% NTSC, capable of displaying a wide color gamut. It also incorporates a new image and color processor, which at the outset would significantly improve image quality compared to previous models.
Power and performance
Taking into account that we are facing a mid-range that barely exceeds 100 euros, we must recognize the manufacturer for its effort to deliver a frankly competent terminal.
Equipped with the usual 1.5GHz 8-core MTK6750T, the Elephone P8 mini mounts 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage space, expandable up to 128GB by card. A winning combo (4GB + 64GB) that until now we had only been able to see in terminals of much more depth for the consumer's pocket.
Another great novelty is the inclusion of a new layer of personalization for the operating system named ELE OS 1.0, which seeks to achieve a more experience user friendly, built on the basis of Android 7.0.
In general, a terminal with good performance and supervitaminated in terms of RAM and storage space.
Camera and battery
We come to the star point of the Elephone P8 mini: its cameras. Some cameras that will try to satisfy all kinds of users. On the one hand, on the front we find one 16.0MP resolution lens, much more powerful than the usual 5.0MP that most mid-range manufacturers are accustomed to. The selfie camera also has facial recognition, and take advantage of the light from the screen in the form of support to obtain better photos in low light environments.
On the back, on the other hand, we find a dual camera with 2 lenses, a 13.0MP and a 2.0MP to capture depth and thus achieve the desired blur effect known as bokeh.
Regarding the autonomy of this P8 mini we find ourselves with a slightly more than compliant 2860mAh battery. The truth is that a little more could have been asked for in this regard (perhaps to reach 3000mAh?), But considering that it mounts a smaller screen than usual today, those 2860mAh can definitely give much more of itself in the Elephone P8, than a much more powerful battery in a terminal of, for example, 5.5 inches. Bear in mind that the rule of + battery = + autonomy is not always fulfilled.
Price and availability
The new Elephone P8 mini It was released this week, and is currently in promotion on GearBest. Its usual price is $ 139.99 (about 124 euros at the change), but between May 31 and June 4 the store will put on sale every day from 09:00 UTC, the first 20 units for only $ 99.99, a real bargain at just over 88 euros.
In short, the Elephone P8 mini strikes us as a mid-range with several Premium features and all the ballots to succeed, especially among those who seek an inexpensive terminal, with muscle in the RAM, the internal space and above all, a selfie camera and a dual rear that will delight lovers of mobile photography.
