Manga PLUS, the Netflix of comics: free, official and up to date with what's coming out in Japan - The Happy Android

If you are an avid manga reader and you follow everything that Shonen Jump publishes, you are in luck. If until now we had to wait a few days for the first scans to leak to find out what was happening in the last chapter of One Piece or Dragon Ball Super, let me give you good news. Manga PLUS has just been born, and it's been cool for a long time.

Manga PLUS, an example to follow for the rest of the publishers stagnant in the past

Shueisha has turned the comics market upside down with the first mobile and tablet app that allows you to read officially and simultaneously upon your departure in Japan all the manga published by the publisher. The same day, already translated into English and totally free!

Manga PLUS is available for both Android and iOS, and although it has only been in the corresponding stores of each platform for a couple of days, it has already accumulated more than 50,000 downloads and a more than positive evaluation by users, predicting a more than promising future. . The platform collects about 50 sleeves, many of them authentic classics and bombshell like One Piece, Haikyu !!, Naruto, Boruto, Hunter x Hunter, Bleach, Tokyo Ghoul, Bakuman and many others.

If it's free ... where do they get the money, then?

The monetization model is based on advertising, but in a non-invasive way, in such a way that we will only see an announcement at the beginning or at the end of each manga, so as not to break the reading rhythm. Quite a smart move on Shueisha's part, and respectful towards the reader.

In the case of the sleeves that are still active, we have at our disposal both the first 3 numbers as the last 3. This is the case of Dragon Ball Super, Boruto or One Piece, among many others. As for the works already completed -such as Bleach or Naruto-, the mechanics are different, adding a new manga every week to the Manga PLUS catalog.

The Japanese publisher does not stitch without thread: it is the perfect method to attract new readers. Thus, if we are hooked on a manga, it is very likely that we will end up buying the paper edition to find out everything that happens in the issues before or after which we can read for free every week from our Android.

Do you want to end piracy and scans? Publish your own comics and do it better than them

This undoubtedly leaves all those fansubs who lived by publishing ripped manga - of better or worse quality - in a very delicate place in the same week that they appeared on newsstands in Japan. We have been able to read some of the most popular Shonen Jump publications online for a long time on the VIZ website for free on the same day they come out in Japan, but being restricted by geolocation only to US users, it stays a bit half for the rest of readers in Europe, Latin America and other countries.

If we had to put any problem, at least for the one who writes these lines, it is that the scroll to turn the page requires that we scroll quite long, making reading difficult at times. Hopefully they will correct it shortly, since otherwise we cannot put too many "buts" on the platform.

For now, the manga are only available in English and Japanese, although Shueisha itself announces that soon we will also be able to enjoy them in Spanish.

Be careful, because this is quite a wake-up call for Marvel and DC, who still offer their digital comics at practically the same price as on paper. Some publishers that still wonder why they fail to increase their sales of comics in a world in which Batman, Spiderman and company burst the movie box office year after year.
