Recommended series, movies, video games, comics and music (March 2018)

It had been a long time since I returned to this mini recommendations section, but today I had a pretty big problem with the blog's infrastructure and I don't feel like squeezing my brain too much with tutorials or extensive reviews. Good time to return to the section, then!

Today's post I tell you about the series, anime, movies, comics, video games and music that I am currently listening to. Perhaps it will help some to discover something new - or not. Do not hesitate to leave your personal recommendations at the end of the post!

Philip K. Dick’s Electric Dreams

Philip K. Dick is a sci-fi classic that cannot be overlooked. This series, originally aired on British Channel 4 -1 season of 10 episodes- is based on some short stories by the writer, and has recently made the leap to Amazon Prime Video.

Electric dreamsWhile it takes a very genre-like approach, it falls short of Black Mirror level. Maybe it has a little less social criticism and a little more straightforward sci-fi, but it is still a series that is worth it. In addition, it is dubbed into Spanish.

Devilman crybaby

Devilman crybaby is a series that landed on Netflix in early 2018, and it is without a doubt the wildest anime I have ever seen on the North American platform. It is based on the Devilman manga by Go Nagai, albeit with some plot changes and different characterizations.

The anime is about Akira, a young man who unites with the devil, thus becoming a Devilman, and unleashing endless misfortunes for himself and all his loved ones.

Annihilation

Something very strange is happening in the world of cinema when movies like Annihilation (Annihilation) are being released on payment platforms like Netflix. And not in movie theaters, which is where these types of movies belong.

Good science fiction, with a certain flavor of Arrival ("The arrival") but with a touch of terror that really suits the whole set. In the film, Natalie Portman is part of a group made up of 5 female scientists, who go out to investigate Zone X, an intriguing place controlled by a powerful alien force. Zone X is a place where other expeditions have gone, but none have returned.

Sarah’s Scribbles

Sarah Andersen is an illustrator and comic book artist from New York. As far as I have 2 compilations of comics, "A happy bun" and "Growing up is a myth", Both with several reissues behind them.

You can read some of their stories on their GoComics page, although I recommend the printed edition, with a really good translation into Spanish. One of my last great discoveries.

Nier: Automata

After putting a lot of energy into Dragon Ball FighterZ for a few weeks, it's time to change a bit of scene. I had read rave reviews of Nier: Automata on PS4 and Steam, and it certainly has a well-deserved reputation.

We are facing an action game, with several different modalities within the game itself and an excellent soundtrack. A Zelda-like open world but with characters taken from the Tokyo Ghoul manga. Or something like that. A title published by Square Enix and developed by Platinum Games that stands out in a market full of recent games of dubious quality. Hey, there are still fun and neat games like this one!

Diao Controller: Good Times

Good times”Is Mando Diao's latest album. Released in 2017, and without the presence of Gustaf Norén on the album, Björn Dixgård takes up the group's legacy with a slightly more acoustic album but with much of the roots of the original Mando Diao.

It's that kind of record that you hear for the first time and you have the feeling that you already knew it before. Really impressive songs like “Break us” on piano and voice, “Money”, or the song that gives name to the album “Good Times” are 3 good reasons to listen to the return of Mando Diao on sites like Spotify as much as possible. and more.

Listen to Mando Diao (Good Times) on Spotify HERE.
