How to turn your Android mobile into a teleprompter - The Happy Android

If you have a YouTube channel or are used to recording videos for your social networks, you will have realized the importance of talk looking at camera. If you are improvising there is no problem, but if you have a script to follow and you have not had time to memorize it, looking the other way to look at a paper is not very professional. What you need is a teleprompter!

Also known as "teleprónter" or autocue, when we talk about this type of tools for Android, the good thing they have is that they help us to read naturally by showing the text of the script on the screen while simultaneously recording. In this sense we can find 2 classes of teleprompter apps:

  • Those that are showing us the superimposed text on the screen while, on the other hand, we open the camera app to record the video.
  • Those that show us the text but also include a native function within the application to record video. What is said, an "all in one".

If we are going to record the video directly from the mobile, it is best to use an all-in-one app like Speechway, which has camera and teleprompter function. If, on the contrary, we only want a screen where the script is shown and the recording we are going to do with another mobile, device or digital camera, then we can resort to other simpler alternatives such as for example Elegant Teleprompter.

In this example we are going to use the Speechway app, which, being the most complete, comes to us not even painted to explain the operation of this type of application. If we install the Elegant Teleprompter app we will see that its interface and mechanisms are practically identical.

Step 1: Write the script

The first thing we have to do is add the text. To do this, click on the blue "+" icon that you will see in the lower area of the screen to create a new script. At this point we can write the title and add the text by hand O well import a document that we have stored in Google Drive or in the internal memory of the device (in which case we have to click on the icon of a cloud, located in the upper right margin of the screen).

The Speechway text editor also allows us to differentiate the script by pages and add reference points to the cue or “cue points”. Once the editing of the script is finished, we can save it by clicking on the blue button that we will see in the lower area of the screen.

Step 2: Customize the teleprompter

Once the document is saved, the application will redirect us to the home screen. Now that we have the text ready, we just have to click on the play button that we will see right next to the title.

This will open the Speechway telepronter, which consists of a black box where the text is reproduced and that we can customize in different ways so that it is more comfortable for us to read.

  • Location: Drag the text box by clicking on the upper right margin of the frame. It is advisable to leave it just below the camera, so that its reading offers naturalness and professionalism.
  • Size: Change the size of the teleprompter by clicking on the lower right margin of the text box.
  • Speed: Modify the text playback speed by clicking on the icon that appears in the lower left margin.
  • Text: Increase or reduce the size of the text by clicking on the icon that appears in the lower left margin of the box.

We can know if the settings are to our liking by clicking on the play icon that we will see right in the lower central area of the text box. Perfect to start practicing.

Step 3: Record the video

Finally, we only have to record the video. For it click on the blue icon located in the lower right area of the screen and make sure to also hit play in the text box so that the script begins to flow.

When you want to stop the recording, you just have to press the same button again. The video will automatically be stored in the internal memory of our Android device.

If you prefer to use another app to record the video, you can also activate the widget format by clicking on the central icon that we will see in the lower area. This will allow us to exit Speechway keeping the teleprompter on the screen so that we can continue using it from outside the application (and make the recording with the camera app, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc).
