A few weeks ago I just renewed my Android TV Box, and the issue of the remote control is something that has been eating at me for several days. No matter how good a TV Box we buy, the usual thing is that the remote controller we receive only covers our needs to a certain extent.
Review of the Wechip W1, a modular remote controller with keyboard and a slim design
In today's mini review we look at the Wechip W1, a wireless controller with keyboard which places the user at the next level when it comes to interaction with our TV device.
Design and finish
If we want to do Internet searchesTo navigate properly within applications like YouTube and the like, we need a keyboard. With generic drivers we are forced to use the virtual keyboard on the screen, and typing in this way can be really tiring. With integrated keyboard controllers, we take a giant leap in that regard.
The design of the Wechip W1 is really stylish. Can be separated into 2 modules, with a quick access module on the surface (power button, settings, volume etc.) and a lower module with a complete keyboard with 45 keys. In this way we find a remote control that avoids somewhat more bulky designs, where all the controls are in a single larger panel.
Technical specifications
One of the great things about the Wechip W1 is that has a 6-axis inertia sensor, which allows us to move the mouse by turning and moving the controller in the air - something similar to the Wii controller. It is a Plug and Play device with a USB receiver that communicates via a 2.4G wireless connection. These are the rest of the details that complete the Wechip W1 specification table:
- 4-in-1: Air Mouse, Wireless Keyboard, Infrared (IR) Remote Control, and Motion Sensor Gaming Gamepad.
- 10 meter range.
- 45-button keyboard.
- Total number of buttons: 57.
- Compatible with PC, Android TV Box, Smart TV and projectors.
- Built-in 300mAh lithium battery.
- IR Learning function.
- CPI setting.
- Materials: plastic and silicone.
- Dimensions of 15.8 * 5.5 * 1.6cm.
- A weight of 86gr.
What can I do with the Wechip W1 that I can't do with a generic driver?
Basically it is what we mentioned at the beginning, if we want to navigate, search in Google, YouTube or use the Google Play Store to install any app on our TV Box we need one of these keyboards, since the difference is abysmal compared to a remote control generic that does not have a built-in keyboard.
What's more, the Wechip W1 has an infrared sensor, which means that we can also use it with our TV (if it is compatible) or with a PC or projector, ideal for making presentations. I don't know to what extent I would use it as a gamepad for emulators, but the option is certainly present as well.
