Normally, the TV box market tends to take longer to adopt the new versions of Android that are published year after year. There are still a lot of TV boxes that navigate between different versions of Android 6.0 and Android 7.0. However, we are already beginning to see some devices that adopt the latest Android 8.0 Oreo, such as the MXQ G12 TV Box.
In today's review we're going to take a quick look at the MXQ G12, a TV Box with Android 8.1 and a good hardware combo, consisting of an Amlogic S905X2 chipset and 4GB of RAM.

The design of the MXQ is quite elegant, with curved edges and a band of blue light that gives it a very interesting touch. Many TV Boxes tend to fail in the design aspect, but in this case it seems that they have hit the nail on the head, delivering one of the most beautiful Android TV Boxes that a server can remember.

What can we do with an MXQ G12?
At the level of multimedia reproduction, the MXQ G12 supports content in 4K, it has H.265 HEVC and VP9 HDR10 + hardware decoding. If we have a good television, we will undoubtedly be able to get the most out of our videos and movies in high definition.
The processor, although it is not an Amlogic S912, has enough pull, and for things like emulators and others it can come in handy. Especially if we are lovers of retrogaming and we get a good bluetooth gamepad.
As for the rest of the typical applications that we usually install on an Android TV Box, we can make use of the usual KODI, YouTube, Spotify, Netflix and others without problems.
Of course, we must bear in mind that we are facing a rooted device with superuser permissions. That means that some applications from the Google Play Store will not be compatible and that we will have to search for them on sites like APK Mirror.
Price and availability
Currently we can take an MXQ G12 home for $ 59.99, about 53 euros to change, on sites like GearBest.
For the rest, a modern TV Box, with a good design and a very well balanced hardware for the price it has. It doesn't dazzle with any surprising novelty, but it shows great value for money.
