Google One will make free backups of your Android or iOS device

Google One, Google's cloud storage service that saw the light of day in 2018, will make backup copies of our Android mobile or iPhone for free. The iOS app, which will soon arrive in the App Store, will allow us to make backups of our photos, videos, contacts and calendar, thus unifying what other Google services already offer separately, such as Photos or Drive, in one place. For its part, the Google One app for Android, which already offered the possibility of making backup copies of certain files, will now also allow backups without having to be subscribed to the platform.

This is an important piece of information, since today Google One is only useful if we are subscribed to the service. If we only have the 15GB free plan (the standard for any user who has a Gmail account) and we do not have a premium plan contracted -100GB, 200GB or 2TB subscriptions-, we will not even be able to go past the login screen . Therefore, with this free update, the Google One app would begin to make sense for all those who only want to safeguard their files using a free backup tool without resorting to premium storage capabilities.

Google One is updated to be more accessible

In addition to this new function to make backup copies, Google One will also receive an update of the interface to facilitate the management of the files that we upload to the cloud. With the new storage manager, which will be available both from the app and the web version, we can organize all files saved in Google Drive, Gmail and Google Photos from a single centralized panel.

The availability of Google One will depend on the country where we use Google Play. As of today, the application is available in Spain, the US, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia, Peru, Chile and most Latin American countries. We can check the complete list of compatible countries In the following link.

As for the dates for this new update, as indicated by Android Authority, the new features of Google One will arrive on Android "in the next few days", although in the case of iOS it seems that they will take a little longer to arrive.

From Google they indicate that these new tools are aimed at ordinary consumers, so the aforementioned functionalities would not be available to business users of G Suite. At least for now.
