If we have ever used the application we will have realized the amount of possibilities it offers. There are so many menus and so many configuration options That can be overwhelming, even for those who are known as "experts" in this technology.
5 basic tricks to master KODI like a true master
In today's post we are going to try to delve a little more into its operation, reviewing some basic tricks that will help us get the most out of this excellent media player.
How to add legal add-ons to KODI
KODI is an excellent multimedia center, compatible with both Android, desktop computers and raspberrys. But its success lies not only in its compatibility, but in its versatility.
In addition to being able to play files locally, with the famous KODI add-ons or “add-ons” we can multiply their potential adding external online sources. That is, add-ons with which we can watch streaming content, listen to music or play games, centrally.
KODI account a fairly powerful official repository of add-ons, where everything we will find will be 100% legal content. To install an add-on on KODI:
- We open KODI and in the side menu click on "Add-ons".
- We are going to "Downloads”Where we will see the official repository of KODI add-ons, classified by type.
- We select the add-on that we want to install, and in the configuration panel we click on "Install”.
- Once installed, we can run it by pressing the button "Run”, Or from the add-ons menu itself, within its corresponding category (video, music, games, programs, Images).
How to add sources of unknown origin
At KODI we find different sources to download add-ons. Those that do not appear in the official repository they are considered "unknown", and are added via URL addresses.
In order to install this type of add-ons, we must first enable the use of unknown sources:
- We open KODI and click on the gear icon, located in the upper margin of the side menu.
- Now we go to "System -> Add-ons”.
- Finally, we make sure that the tab "Unknown sources" it's activated.
How to remove buffering when streaming
When we are watching some content online through the Internet, sometimes the streaming hangs or chops. A message type "loading the buffer" appears, something that does not depend only on having a good Internet connection or on the devices that are connected to the network.
This is a known issue: buffering. Luckily, we can improve the service by increasing the buffer limit. How? Creating a configuration file and inserting a little code in it.
The first thing we have to do is open a notepad (better if we do it from the computer) and paste the following code:
1
1.5
104857600
Next, we save the file with the name "advancedsettings.txt". Then we will the folder where user data is stored in KODI. Depending on our operating system, we will find the folder in one of the following locations:
- Android: Android / data / org.xbmc.kodi / files / .kodi / userdata /
- Windows:% APPDATA% \ kodi \ userdata
- ios: / private / var / mobile / Library / Preferences / Kodi / userdata /
- Linux: ~ / .kodi / userdata /
- Mac: / Users // Library / Application Support / Kodi / userdata /
Notice: Remember to tell the system that show hidden files and folders to find the right path for your system.
Once we have located the folder "userdata" in our system, we will move the file "advancedsettings.txt" that we just created and we will rename the extension to "advancedsettings.xml".
From this moment on, we will notice a considerable improvement in the reproduction of streaming content and live TV.
How to add custom skins
The truth is that the KODI interface is not bad at all. Of course, if we want to change it, we can also do it and give the application a more personal touch.
- On the KODI main screen, click on the gear icon.
- Let's go to the section "Interface”.
- In the side menu we select "Skin -> Skin”.
- Within this new window, click on "Get more”And download any of the available skins.
- Finally, we click on "skin”And select the new custom interface that we just downloaded.
The user interface will automatically change and update with a new layout and format.
How to backup KODI
After spending a lot of time adding add-ons, configuring the buffer, tweaking settings here and there, it would be a shame to lose it. To prevent this from happening, we can back up all of our KODI settings.
To do this, we go to "Add-ons -> Download" and click on "Program add-ons". We look for the add-on called "Backup" and install it.
Next, we execute the plugin from the button "Run”And we do the following:
- Click on "Open settings”And configure the backup parameters.
- Finally, we click on "Backup”To back up.
If at any time we want to recover the backup configuration, we will only have to go back in and select "Restore”.
These are just a few tricks for KODI, but the truth is that there are many more. If you know of any other that is worth it, do not hesitate to share it in the comments area. Thanks for staying until the end!
