Elephone A5 in analysis, mobile with 5 cameras and 132,000 points in Antutu

It seems that this has been the year of Elephone. The Asian manufacturer, known for its mid-range terminals, throwing cheap, has gone through 2018 like a locomotive, presenting several interesting smartphones. You can see that there is interest in doing things much better, and a good example of this are the Elephone A4 Pro and the Elephone U Pro that have been found in stores in recent months.

To put the icing on the cake, the company closes the year by presenting the Elephone A5, the first Elephone mobile to mount 5 cameras, and Mediatek's exclusive Helio P60 processor.

Elephone A5 in review, a mid-range with good taste and commendable performance

The Elephone A5 is the logical evolution of the previous A4: better screen, better chipset, more performance and more battery. The design is still indebted to Huawei's P20 Pro, but with the particularity that this time it is the Elephone terminal that surpasses it in number of cameras.

Design and display

Going a little deeper into the detail, we see that this Elephone A5 presents a 6.18-inch screen with Full HD + resolution (2246x1080p) with a pixel density of 403ppi. The design is very similar to Huawei's latest flagship, with the characteristic “notch” and a crystallized polished casing with a red to blue graduation that gives a rather elegant premium touch to the device.

It has dimensions of 15.50 x 7.55 x 0.81 cm and a weight of 200 grams. Of course it has a less stylish finish than the P20 Pro and is heavier in hand, but that is understandable considering that we are dealing with a mobile 4 times cheaper. In any case, an attractive terminal, with an excellent screen and one of the most attractive in the mid-range.

Power and performance

Here things get more serious. The chipset chosen by Elephone to run its new smartphone is the Helio P60, the most powerful of its series: 12nm processors, 8 cores and a clock speed of 2.0GHz. All accompanied by a Mali-G72 GPU, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 512GB via SD. The operating system is Android 8.1.

This for practical purposes gives us a device with a performance well above the usual mid-range Chinese mobiles. More specifically, this Elephone A5 offers a performance in Antutu of 132,300 points, a figure that we cannot ignore and that assures us of commendable fluidity and operability.

Camera and battery

We come to the highlight of the Elephone A5, its camera. The mobile mounts a triple rear camera of 12.0MP + 5.0MP + 0.3MP with f / 2.0 aperture and a pixel size of 1.28μm. The front for its part is not neglected, and we find a powerful 20MP + 2MP double selfie camera, with the classic beauty mode, bokeh effect and others.

Regarding autonomy, the terminal mounts a large battery of 4,000mAh with USB Type-C charging. More than enough to not have to worry about running out of battery in the middle of the afternoon.

Other functionalities

The mobile also has a fingerprint reader on one of the sides, unlocking through facial recognition, dual SIM (nano + nano), Bluetooth 4.2, Dual AC WiFi (2.4G / 5G) and a 3.5mm headphone slot.

Price and availability

The Elephone A5 has just been released, and right now we can take it home with us for $ 199.99, about 177 euros to change, thanks to the flash offer that the terminal is enjoying these days on GearBest. Its usual price, without offers in between, is usually around 230 euros, more or less.

In short, Elephone has presented a mobile that is a step above the usual mid-range, with an admirable performance and a claim as popular as the quintuple camera. If we get it at a good price, a highly recommended bet.
