Xiaomi Mi 8 in analysis, brutal high-end with 6GB RAM and Snapdragon 845

The most successful Asian manufacturer in recent years is back with a new top of the range, the Xiaomi Mi 8. But now the Mi 7 was not playing? According to Xiaomi, they have jumped directly from the Mi 6 to the Mi 8 to coincide with the eighth anniversary of the brand. But leaving these events aside, what does this new opponent of the Samsung, iPhone and Huawei offer us?

In today's review we analyze the Xiaomi Mi 8, a high-end terminal that is put on sale at a really competitive price, taking into account the components that this little beast wears. Hey, and it also has notch! That "chorprecha "!

Xiaomi Mi 8 in analysis, a premium experience for half an iPhone X

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is a beast in every way. Just look at its performance of 271,164 points in Antutu to know that this phone is a very serious thing. We may like its design more or less, and the absence of the headphone jack may piss us off more or less, but knowing that you can still get the best quality phones for much less than what a Samsung Galaxy S9 fresh out of the oven costs us or the last iPhone on duty, is at least a relief for most mortals.

Design and display

The Mi 8 has a 6.21-inch AMOLED screen with Full HD + resolution (2248 x 1080p) and a pixel density of 402 ppi. An infinity screen with an 18: 7: 9 aspect ratio that uses the famous notch or notch to occupy the maximum possible space on the front.

Regarding the design, we find the logical evolution of the Mi 6, visually approaching the iPhone X thanks to the inevitable notch that we cannot help but see in every new supposedly cool top of the range that hits the market.

Of which there is no doubt is that the finish is sober and of high quality: crystallized housing, vertical cameras with a small protrusion, fingerprint reader on the back and curved aluminum edges with a matte finish. Alright.

This Mi 8 has dimensions of 15.49 x 7.48 x 0.76 cm, a weight of 175 grams and is available in black, blue, white and gold.

Power and performance

Entering the guts of this Xiaomi Mi 8 we discover a more than desirable hardware. On the one hand, we have an SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 Octa Core running at 2.8GHz, and on the other, a 6GB LPDDR4x RAM next to 128GB of internal space -Not expandable, yes-. In the operating system we have a Android 8.0 Oreo with Xiaomi MIUI 9.5 layer.

Nice is a while, yes.

With these wickers, at the performance level there is not much that resists the new Xiaomi flagship –remember that it has more than 270,000 points in Antutu-. It pulls with everything, there are no lags, slowdowns or stops and in general, it is capable of fluidly managing everything that is put in front of it.

What we will notice is that it heats up a bit when we play heavy games for a while. Something on the other hand unavoidable considering the thinness of the terminal.

Another of the highlights, this time at the software level, is that it offers the possibility of navigating by gestures, thus hiding the navigation bar to have more screen. Some gestures very similar to those of the iPhone X and that work really well: drag from below to close, and a swipe short from the right edge to go back.

Camera and battery

The Xiaomi Mi 8 camera is not far behind the rest of the components. At the rear, it mounts a double lens (IMX363 Exmor RS from Sony) of 12MP + 12MP with aperture f / 1.8 and telephoto lens on the second sensor. And for the front, a powerful selfie camera with a resolution of 20MP and aperture f / 2.0. Which is not bad at all.

The notch is not only for decoration: somewhere you had to put all these components ...

As regards autonomy, this Mi 8 equips a 3400mAh battery with fast charging via USB Type-C, and Qi wireless charging. A battery that is squeezed to the maximum and that allows you to spend the day calmly, with full charges in just over an hour and a half.

Connectivity

Finally, with regard to the connectivity of the terminal, it has Bluetooth 5.0, Dual nano SIM, LTE, WiFi 4 × 4 MIMO and NFC connection.

Price and availability

The Xiaomi Mi 8 is now available at a price of $ 599.99, about € 516, on GearBest. We can also get it from other trusted sites such as AliExpress from 397.11 euros. A really attractive value for money that puts this Mi 8 in the spotlight of the most demanding users.

It certainly has its negative points, such as a not too powerful speaker or the absence of a jack (although it does bring an adapter in the box for the USB C port). In all other respects, an outstanding phone for anyone looking for an elegant and powerful smartphone around 500 euros.
