In recent days an alleged message from a person who identifies as Karelis Hernández, director of WhatsApp. Karelis informs that WhatsApp will be updated in 24 hours and that it will become paid, costing 0.37 cents to send each message. If we want to continue using WhatsApp for free, we will only have to share your message with 10 of our contacts. Yes of course!
A new scam, the same old trick as always
The first thing to clarify is that the message is completely false. The real CEO of WhatsApp is Jan Koum, and most likely Karelis Hernandez does not even exist. At least not as director of WhatsApp ... that's for sure.
Based on this premise, the top management of the well-known messaging tool would never communicate with users through chain messages. When WhatsApp has something to say, it does so through updates in the app, messages on its website or through the media. Therefore, if we receive this or any other chain message, let's be clear that it is a hoax in 100% of the cases.
Karelis Hernández's message
“Hello, I am Karelis Hernández, director of WhatsApp, this message is to inform all our users that we only have 530 accounts available for new phones, and that our servers have recently been very congested, so we are asking for your help to solve this trouble. We need our active users to forward this message to each of the people in their contact list in order to confirm our active users who use WhatsApp, if you do not send this message to all your WhatsApp contacts, then your account will remain inactive with the consequence of losing all your contacts.
The automatic update symbol on your smartphone will appear with the transmission of this message. Your smartphone will be updated within 24 hours, it will have a new design, a new color for the chat and its icon will change from green to blue. WhatsApp will go to a paid rate unless you are a frequent user. If you have at least 10 contacts, send this text message and the logo will turn red to indicate that you are a frequent user. Tomorrow they will start charging for messages on WhatsApp at 0.37 cents. Forward this message to more than 9 people in your contacts and it will be free for life, check it out and the ball on top will turn blue ».
Chainmail scams
Not even WhatsApp will turn blue, we will not lose our contacts or have to pay a single penny to use the tool. Facebook He already made it clear that he was betting on a free WhatsApp when he acquired the company, and it is something that he has not retracted so far at any time.
These well-known chain messages have been with us for decades: before we received them through email, and now through WhatsApp. The objective is usually always the same, click on a link or carry out an action that usually leads to viruses, spyware or any type of malware ready to infect our device or mobile phone.
Nobody knows Karelis Hernández, the director of WhatsApp is Jan Koum and yes, WhatsApp is still free to use. If you receive this this new viral, do not share it.
