It is not very common, but sometimes it happens, when it has been given a lot of use to Word or this is getting corrupted, that the application takes a long time to open. The reason is as follows:
Whenever you open a new blank document or try to send a new email from Outlook, Word uses a file called normal.dot and uses it as a template. If this file is corrupt it will get heavier and heavier, will take up more space and it will take more and more effort for Word to open it. The normal thing is that the normal.dot file occupies just over 20 KB, If it weighs much more, it is that the template does not work as it should (or that you have customized the template and it has extra content that you have added yourself and therefore its weight is greater). This makes it take a long time for the program to open a new document.
To solve this problem, simply locate the file normal.dot or normal.dotm (depending on the version of Office you have installed, from Office 2007 .dot to .dotm) and remove it or rename it. This file is usually located in the personal configuration folder of the user of the equipment, in the folder "templates" or "templates" in the path:
Windows 7 onwards:
C: \ Users \ username \ AppData \ Roaming \ Microsoft \ Templates (or “Templates)
Windows Xp:
C: \ Documents and Settings \ username) \ Application Data \ Microsoft \ Templates (or “Templates”)
Once the "Normal" file is located, and keeping Word and Outlook closed, delete the file or change the extension to normal.dotm_old, normal.dot_old or similar.
When you reopen Word the application will create a new blank template, it will generate the normal.dotm file again and you will be able to work normally.
How Outlook uses this same template From Word to new messages, the workaround is also portable to fix problems of slowness when creating new messages in the Outlook mail client.
