A few days ago we launched our private list with the best phones for less than 300 euros. One of the most striking due to its characteristics was the ZTE Axon 7, a phone that came out about a year ago. In its day it was described as a top of the range with very good value for money, but it was at the end of 2017 when it really finished exploding. The reason? Its price has dropped to 225 euros.
Analysis of the ZTE Axon 7: spectacular mobile with premium finishes and really powerful hardware
The ZTE Axon 7 has some high-end features. You just have to look at its large processor and its really neat screen that dazzles even in direct light. All this with a camera and a sound that, without being the best of the most exclusive range, easily feeds off most of its mid-range competitors.
Design and display
The Axon 7 wears a screen 5.5-inch Super AMOLED with 2.5D arched, Corning Gorilla Glass 4 and a 2K resolution of 2560x1440p. All this with a definition of 538ppp and a maximum brightness of 319 nits. It's not quite up to the level of the Galaxy S8, but it's certainly a great screen for watching HD videos.
At the design level we find a metallic aluminum unibody body with a high quality finish, rounded edges and a fingerprint reader on the back. On the front, the placement of the speakers gives the terminal a very personal style, which I personally like a lot.
Power and performance
As for the hardware of the equipment there is not much to discuss. In the guts of the ZTE Axon 7 we discovered a processor Snapdragon 820 Quad Core at 2.15GHz, GPU Adreno 530, 4GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage expandable up to 128GB and Android 6.0.
If we talk about performance, this is synonymous with fluidity and power. With a Snapdragon 820 and 4GB of RAM we can do any magic that comes to mind. Powerful games, heavy applications… there aren't many applications out there that Qualcomm's second best processor and good RAM can't move.
Another point to mention is the customization layer that the company has included with the Axon 7. Mainly is aimed at improving battery consumption, controlling those applications in the background that consume more resources than the account. Some may find this restrictive or intrusive, but others will simply adore it. For tastes colors. Nothing that cannot be solved with a good launcher for Android, Secondly.
Camera and battery
The camera is another of the most striking aspects of the ZTE Axon 7. One 20.0MP rear lens with f / 1.8 aperture and optical image stabilizer, typical of a top of the range. A camera capable of recording video at 2160p / 30fps and 1080p / 60fps. On the front we find a 8.0MP selfie camera with some extras like beauty mode to improve the final result of our selfies.
A camera that stands out for having a large number of manual settings and a more than satisfactory response in both high and low light environments. In this sense, it stands out quite a bit from the cameras that we usually find in the mid-range, which tend to suffer considerably with the lack of light.
In terms of autonomy, the Axon 7 has opted for a 3250mAh battery. Not that it is a beastly battery, but with the customization layer we should be able to extend the use of those 3250mAh a little more. In any case, we are facing a terminal with cfast charging via USB Type-C port which greatly facilitates the process of “refueling” the terminal.
Sound and other functionalities
In the sound section we find some stereo speakers with Dolby ATMOS sound that go up to 100-115 decibels of power. It has NFC, Dual SIM (nano + nano), supports FDD-LTE, GSM, WCDMA (2G / 3G / 4G), 802.11b / g / n networks and has a Bluetooth 4.2 connection.
Price and availability
Although its starting price was around 500 euros, currently we can get a ZTE Axon 7 for a price of 225.90 euros, about $ 265 to change, on GearBest. A price that greatly reinforces the already adjusted quality-price ratio of the terminal.
This is probably one of the best moments to get a top of the range that shines for its powerful features for the same price that a normal mid-range of well-known brands such as Samsung, Sony or Huawei would cost us.
