In line with other posts previously published on the blog such as "How to get Microsoft Office for free", today we are going to take a look at the current situation of the most popular professional image editor of all time, Adobe Photoshop. Can you get any Photoshop free version legally today?
Photoshop as a service
If we are a little disconnected from the evolution of this great tool, we will be interested to know that Photoshop has now practically become a subscription service that receives regular updates. Yes, the truth is that it does not sound very good. Previously, there were methods that allowed us to use old versions of Photoshop meeting certain requirements, but these methods have become obsolete and no longer work.
If at this time we want to get the full version of Photoshop we must pay around 12 euros or dollars, which is what the monthly subscription costs, something quite difficult to justify unless we dedicate ourselves to this in a professional way. There is also a slightly lighter version of the tool, called Photoshop Elements, which we can acquire for life by making a single payment of about 100 euros. It includes a large number of advanced features but generally has far fewer options and utilities than the standard Adobe editor.
That said, let's see what opportunities we have at our disposal to be able to use Photoshop for free, and in which cases the old downloadable versions of the editor can be a valid solution for our particular case.
Take advantage of the free trial period
Currently the easiest way to use Photoshop without paying a penny is to sign up with Adobe and subscribe to the free trial period (and cancel before the paid subscription is activated). This will allow us download the latest version of Photoshop so far and use it free for 7 days.
To do this, the first thing we have to do is enter the official Adobe website and click on the button "Free trial version" that we will see on the screen. Then we will be redirected to a panel where we are offered 3 different subscription packages. If we do not want to have problems with the cancellation of the subscription, the best thing we can do is select the "Photographic Plan", which includes in addition to Photoshop the photographic editor Adobe Lightroom, which is not bad either.
This will take us to a page where we will have to enter an email address to complete the purchase. If we are new users we will also have to register and enter an access password along with our email.
Once all the steps are completed the Photoshop download will start automatically. A download that will be valid for both MacOS and Windows 10 computers, as long as we have enough GB of free space on our computer and we meet the minimum technical requirements.
Once Photoshop is installed on the computer, we can use it for free for 7 days. Keep in mind that the trial period starts from the moment you downloaded the installation package. Make sure to cancel your Creative Cloud membership (this is the subscription we are charged for on a month-to-month basis) before the mandatory 7 days have passed.
Extra trial periods?
Adobe is responsible for keeping a record of both the accounts we use to register and thethe computers on which the application is downloaded. For this reason it is really difficult to get a second week of trial for the temple. We can try to erase Photoshop entirely from the computer and sign up with a new Adobe account, although the chances of getting another free trial are pretty slim.
Goodbye to Photoshop CS2
Until a while ago Photoshop Creative Suite 2 (CS2) was available to download for free for those who have purchased the application in the past and still have the product serial number.
This worked for a lot of people who were doing just fine with Photoshop CS2 and were unwilling and unable to get into a monthly subscription service. However, today this is a solution that has become almost impossible and not recommended.
- Adobe has disabled the activation servers for Photoshop CS2.
- Serial numbers from old product purchases are no longer valid. CS2 can now only be activated with a unique serial number provided by Adobe.
- Windows 10 has major compatibility issues with Photoshop CS2. Today it seems that it is quite difficult to make it work on the latest version of Microsoft's operating system.
- As for Apple, the thing does not improve at all, and that is that CS2 is not compatible with MacOS since OS X version 10.7 Mountain Lion.
To finish off the move Adobe has removed the Photoshop CS2 download from its website. That means that today we should turn to other pages or unofficial sources to download the software.
Something that certainly seems not recommended: in the best of cases we will have an application that will hardly work (and that if we manage to install and run it without compatibility failures). And in the worst case, our PC will be infected by some very unappetizing virus or malware.
Free Photoshop apps for Android
This solution may not work for everyone, but if we are not going to give it a professional level utility and all we are looking for is to be able to retouch photos and images for personal use, we may want to take a look at Google Play.
Currently Adoble offers several photo editing applications under the seal of "Photoshop" that are the best in case we have a good tablet or smartphone with which to use them.
