Slowness in Excel (and other applications) Solution! - The Happy Android

If we notice that Excel takes too long to open certain files and it is very slow It would be advisable to check the virtual memory of your computer, since an expansion of it if necessary can help our system to manage the programs with greater agility and speed. Therefore, we bear in mind that this advice also applies to the rest of the applications with which we usually work.

Does Excel and other programs take a long time to open? The solution may be to expand virtual memory

The virtual memory It is a paging file, located on our hard drive, that Windows uses as if it were RAM memory, therefore if we expand the size of this file this will simulate a memory expansion and Windows will work a little looser. In this way, programs such as spreadsheets or other office automation programs can be more fluent and suffer less from that infamous slowness.

To expand the virtual memory we just have to click with the right mouse button on the Windows start button and we will System ->Advanced system settings (in Windows 7 go to buttonWindows startup -> right button on "Team"And select"Properties” -> “Advanced system settings”).

Within System properties, in the tab “Advanced Options" we select "Setting" (Performance).

On "Performance options"Within the" tabAdvanced Options"We select"Change”(Virtual Memory).

In this image we see that the virtual memory size is 704 MB and that the system recommends 3525 MB.

To expand the virtual memory we will uncheck “Automatically manage size ... " and we will click on "Custom size”. My advice would be to set a starting size equal to the size recommended by the system and a maximum size twice the recommended size.

In the example in the image, the system recommends 3525 MB, so we will establish an initial size of 3525 MB and a maximum of double, 7050 MB.

Then just click on "Establish”And select“To accept”In the rest of the open windows. A window will appear indicating that it is necessary to restart the computer for the changes to take effect and it will ask us if you want to restart now. Once the computer has restarted the virtual memory will have increased, improving the performance of Excel and the rest of the applications on our PC.
