1.1.1.1: Cloudflare's free DNS for faster browsing

Cloudflare just introduced your own DNS service for consumers, which promises increase internet connection speed of its users, as well as greater privacy. The DNS service uses //1.1.1.1, and no, this is no joke. It is a DNS server that anyone can use on their computer or device. "The fastest consumer DNS service on the Internet, oriented to privacy" in the words of Cloudflare itself, which promises to clear the logs of all DNS queries in less than 24 hours.

DNS (Domain Name System) is a service that is normally provided by our Internet provider, and is used to convert addresses like elandroidefeliz.com, Google com or any other Internet address, in an IP address that the routers and other network elements to which we are connected "can understand". The downside of this is that the DNS service provided by ISPs (Internet providers) is usually very slow and not very private (they keep a record of the addresses we visit).

There are already services similar to the one just introduced by Cloudflare, such as OpenDNS and Google DNS, but Cloudflare's DNS is faster. How many? Cloudflare DNS offer an overall response time of 14ms, compared to 20ms for OpenDNS and 24ms for Google DNS.

Cloudflare DNS has been developed in collaboration with APNIC, is free, and offers support for DNS over TLS and DNS over HTTPS. We can find all the information by visiting the page //1.1.1.1
