Blackview A20 Pro in review, a base range with the “Amazon’s Choice” seal

In today's review we look at the Blackview A20 Pro. An input terminal, from one of the best-known manufacturers in the Asian mid-range. A smartphone that is the evolution of the Blackview A20, an ultra-cheap mobile (50 euros) that we already talked about in this blog a few months ago. What changes does this new Blackview A20 Pro embrace?

Before we start, we must say that it is a terminal that has been labeled with the “Amazon’s Choice” seal, the brand that Amazon puts on its recommended products as a result of its positive reviews, good price and fast shipping. So is it really worth it?

Blackview A20 Pro, a “guerilla” smartphone with a 5.5-inch HD screen for less than 70 euros

The first thing we have to comment on is that this is a phone for first-time users, with very basic characteristics. Its price is well below 100 euros, which makes it attract a lot of attention as a possible gift for the smallest of the house, or people who do not regularly use the mobile.

Design and display

In the case of such a mobile, it is appreciated that the design is quite content. It is elegant, has curved edges and its weight barely reaches 170 grams, which is very good. On the front mount a 5.5 ”screen with HD resolution (1440 x 720p) and an aspect ratio of 18: 9. It is available in black, blue and gold colors.

At the back we find the fingerprint detector, as well as a double camera with a flash in a horizontal arrangement.

Power and performance

At the hardware level, as we mentioned earlier, we find base-range components moving the machinery. On the one hand, we have an MTK6739 Quad Core chip running at 1.3GHz, accompanied by 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage space expandable up to 32GB via micro SD card. The operating system is Android 8.1 Oreo.

In terms of performance, we will not have problems browsing, talking on WhatsApp, watching videos and installing the odd app. However, and how can it be otherwise, the Blackview A20 Pro is not a mobile to play games with a lot of graphic load. A very modest but compliant phone if we use it for what it was designed.

Camera and battery

When you put such a cheap phone on the market there is no choice but to cut back where possible. This usually means a camera well below average, and this is no exception. At least we have a double camera (8MP + 0.3MP), which means that we can take pictures with bokeh effect.

Autonomy, on the other hand, is a section that quite benefits from the whole. By having a processor that does not consume many resources, the 3,000mAh battery they are used much better than in a more powerful smartphone.

Connectivity

The A20 Pro features Dual SIM (nano + nano), Bluetooth 4.2, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a micro USB charging port.

Price and availability

At the time of writing this review the Blackview A20 Pro is available on Amazon for an approximate value of 69.99 euros. A really attractive value for money if what we are looking for is an inexpensive smartphone that can get us out of a hurry.

Opinion and final assessment

Is it worthy of the “Amazon’s Choice” seal? It seems quite appropriate. Is it better than other cheap cell phones from brands like UMI or Oukitel? Well, there it will depend on each one. At the hardware and price level we will not find much difference, so the most normal thing is that we choose according to its visual aspect. This A20 Pro has a fairly sober and elegant design, which could tip the balance in its favor in a hypothetical comparison with any other cheap mobile phone.

In short, a phone designed as an access or entry device for new users. Perfect for carrying out basic functions and with a fairly updated operating system (something that in this price range is not always easy to find).
