Every so often, fans of Neon Genesis Evangelion They have the opportunity to spend their money on smartphones designed to the sound of the famous Japanese wicks series. In 2012 we had the NERV Edition SH-06D from DoCoMo, in 2015 it was the turn of the SH-M02-EVA20, and this year we witnessed the launch of the Oppo Reno Ace 2 EVA Limited Edition, a spectacular top of the range that just went on sale on June 1.
This edition does not go on the market on these dates by pure chance: we are in the 25th anniversary of the anime, and this same June 27 we will finally see the expected premiere of the third revisionist film of the saga, Evangelion: 3.0 + 1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. Now, this Oppo Ace 2 is a very exclusive terminal, and is that apart from being available only in China - it can also be purchased through the Oppo website - its production is limited to only 10,000 units.
Design and display
The design of the Oppo Ace 2 EVA is taken care of to the millimeter and undoubtedly constitutes the great attraction of this terminal. The case acquires the colors of the EVA-01, with its characteristic purple and fluorescent green finishes, with the Evangelion name silkscreened vertically just below the circular box where the quadruple rear camera that equips the device is located.
The mobile comes in a box that immediately recalls NERV's "Human Instrumentation Project", and upon opening it we find a white capsule very similar to those used by pilots to enter their respective combat fuses. We also find a most endearing accessory, and that is the spike to remove the SIM It has been designed in the shape of Longinus' spear. In addition to that, the pack also includes a slim case with the Unit 01 motifs. As well as NERV headphones and a charging unit with a design reminiscent of the EVA launch pad.
All these details would be nothing if it weren't for the fact that the Oppo Reno Ace 2 is also a top-of-the-range smartphone, which translates into a screen 6.55 ”OLED with Full HD + resolution very high density (402ppi), a refresh rate of 90Hz and a touch response of 180Hz. It has dimensions of 75.4 x 160 x 8.6 mm and a weight of the most acceptable of 185 grams.
Power and performance
At the hardware level we are facing a machine that could face the very angels. On the one hand we have an SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Octa-Core at 2.84GHz with 5G connection, Adreno 650 GPU, 8GB LPDDR4 RAM and 128GB non-expandable storage capacity. The operating system is Android 10.
In short, next-generation components that deliver outstanding performance. To give us an idea of its power, it offers a result in Antutu of more than 600,000 points, which places it as one of the mobiles with the most muscle on the current market.
Camera and battery
In the photographic section, the Oppo Reno Ace 2 EVA mounts a quad camera with a main lens of 48MP with aperture f / 1.7 and a pixel size of 0.80 µm. A lens that is accompanied by an 8MP wide-angle lens for macro shots and two depth lenses for portrait mode. The front camera for its part delivers 16MP selfies with f / 2.4 aperture and a pixel size of 1.00µm. It allows recording in slow motion, night mode, HDR and 4K video recording.
The battery has a lithium polymer battery of 4,000mAh with fast charging via USB-C and wireless charging. It also allows reverse charging, which means that we can use the mobile as a power bank and charge other devices. As a curious and cool detail, when we put the mobile to charge wirelessly, the terminal screen will be covered with an AT field like the Evangelion wicks.
Other features
As for the rest of the functionalities, it should be noted that the terminal includes NFC connectivity, it does not have a headphone jack input –ouch-, it has Bluetooth 5.1 low consumption technology, Dual SIM and WiFi 6 (802.11ax) thanks to the new Qualcomm compatible chip.
Price and availability
As we mentioned at the beginning of the post, we are facing a terminal with a limited edition of 10,000 units, so we can say that it is a fairly exclusive product. Currently it can be purchased from the official Oppo website at a price of 4,399 yuan, which translates to just over 600 euros at the exchange rate.
